Ancient Corinth, Nafplio, Full Day Private Tour From Athens
This private tour starts from Athens early in the morning towards the magnificent structure of the Corinth Canal, which is located in the Peloponnese, the southern peninsula of Greece. The Corinth Canal connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea. A dream of the ancients, which came true in 1893. Short stop to take incredible photos over the Corinth Canal. If you are lucky you will be able to witness the passage of a ship through the canal while a train travels across the bridge. Leaving the Isthmus we will arrive at Ancient Corinth, one of the most illustrious cities with the richest and most famous port of ancient Greece. In this megalopolis the Apostle Paul came, worked and established a prosperous church, later sending two of his epistles, which are now part of the New Testament. There is the church that has the first letter to the Corinthians written in four languages, Greek, Arabic, French and English. We will visit the archaeological complex that includes the Agora, the Temple of Apollo and the Roman forum, as well as other important temples and the museum. Then we visit Acrocorinth, a fortress that is constantly enriched by the Neolithic period until the end of the Ottoman occupation (1822).
We will continue to Nafplio, a beautiful port with Venetian influences, located on the East Coast of the Gulf of Argolis. It was the first modern capital of Greece from 1821 to 1834. A visit to the great Fortress of Palamides, which stands 216 meters above sea level, is preserved in excellent condition, is one of the greatest achievements of Venetian fortification. Built on the top of Mount Palamides, it is a place steeped in history, it bears the name of the Homeric hero Palamides, whose feat consisted of entertaining his companions with games during the siege before the walls of Troy, it is also known because the famous man was imprisoned there. hero of the Greek Revolution Kolokotronis.
